This is one of those times that I love the Internet; some helpful soul has, for no valid reason,
uploaded to YouTube some snippets of Miami's WPLG Newswatch-10 evening news show from 1979. The 1970s were a pretty ugly decade, and gazing upon this grey old footage instantly conjures up grey old memories of dreary family dinners, forced to watch local news with the parents. So why then do I find it so refreshing at the same time? Perhaps because of the simpler times it represents - a pre-Internet, pre-Reagan, pre-cellphone world.
And yes, Stanley Kubrick fans, that's the same Glenn Rinker who makes an appearance (as himself, on a television doing the show) in the movie The Shining.
