At Mazzaro's Italian Market in St. Petersburg, you might easily overlook this hidden-in-plain-sight wooden structure containing some big enormous black torpedo-like thing. I didn't see it until the second time I visited.
It's a giant provolone cheese, taller than two people stacked on one another.
In fact, so the sign tells us, it's the largest cheese ever to be shipped to the United States. (Has the Guinness Book of World Records been notified?) It's 1,100 pounds, 12 feet tall, was made from over 11,000 pounds of milk, and won't be cut into until December 2014.
I wonder if they'll have a cheese-opening party, and I wonder if I can get near the front of the line to sample it?
