Lazy Moon

And then there's that hoppin' little college-student eatery in Orlando called Lazy Moon, at 11551 University Boulevard. When I stopped in last week, it was buzzing with activity and UCF students of all stripes were present: nerds, jocks, hippies, people with tattoos on their faces, etc. (Or as the secretary in Ferris Bueller's Day Off put it, "The sportos, the motorheads, geeks, sluts, bloods, wastoids, dweebies, dickheads...")

The place also has a bocce court, but I never see anyone playing it. The music was that sort of nondescript bland middle-of-the-college-radio-road stuff that all sounds alike, even to its own practitioners. They probably thought they were being kind to the ears of older customers by sanding off the rough edges and leaving out anything really grungy, bassy, atonal or dubsteppy, but this old man here would have much rather heard Knife Party than whatever this post-post-Dave-Matthewsishness was.

Meanwhile, the walls are adorned with a nice mix of iconic hipster art and blowups of old Florida postcards and pin-up cheesecake photos.

But it's all about the grub, isn't it? The delicious pizza slices were seriously the size of a small souvenir baseball pennant, defying the customer to just try to fold it up New York style without looking like he's trying to manually put the roof up on a British convertible. Will definitely chow here again next time I'm Orlandoing.
